Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a method developed by Pat Ogden, Ph.D., for trauma resolution. SP focuses on the wisdom of the body. When we experience a life-threatening event. if we are not able to fight or flee, our only other option is to freeze. It is in this frozen state that the classic symptoms of trauma and PTSD emerge: hypervigilance, emotional hijacking, dissociation, insomnia, nightmares, to name a few. Using SP methods, we help the physical body, emotional body and the nervous system to discharge and complete what was not able to completed at the time of the precipitating event.

Dr. Ogden was originally an Hakomi therapist and trainer, as well as a bodyworker. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy draws heavily from the Hakomi method, both in addressing belief systems and childhood wounds as they pertain to trauma, and in embracing the body as a primary resource to healing.
